“I Feel the Need for Speed”

Tonight I attended, with friends Cheryl and Bill, the “I Feel the Need for Speed” aviation dinner and silent auction at the Golden Wings Museum. The event was to raise money for the restoration of the Tsunami Airplane which was a World Speed Racing plane. It flew over 500 mph back in 1986, but then crashed in 1991. So Flight Expo is restoring it to fly and race again. Skip Holm, the 8 Time Air Race Champion, gave a talk after the dinner and signed autographs.

Before dinner we walked around the museum (there were probably a dozen old beautifully resorted airplanes at the Museum. All were incredible to see live and in person) and we also made paper airplanes. Sadly my paper airplane did not fly very far. The silent auction took place after dinner and Skip’s talk. I bid on one item at the silent auction: a ride in a Vintage Open Cockpit N3N Biplane. And I won! Cheryl bid and won on a ride in a Nanchang CJ-6 Chinese trainer plane and Bill won a ride in a T-6 Thunder WWII Trainer airplane. So it was a great night for everyone.
