September 2023 Reads

Fall! September was a busy month and I ended up reading 7 really fun books. Little Valentino would not sit still to have his photo taken with the new Elon Musk book during his visit, so this was the best photo of the lot. The same with Ginger and the new Enoal Holmes book. The books and the links to buy them are listed below.

Remember life is way too short to read a book that you don’t like, so read what interests you. Happy reading!

Starter Villain by John Scalzi – Charlie’s long-lost Uncle dies and he inherits his business – which just happens to be a supervillain business. Includes spy cats, unionizing dolphins with attitudes, a volcano island headquarters, and other supervillains that want Charlie dead. Really fun and one of those books that you don’t want to end. Hopefully, there will be a sequel.

Star Trek: Discovery: Somewhere to Belong by Dayton Ward – Michael Burnham and crew deal with the descendants of Tilly’s friend Queen Po – the Xaheans.

Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson – An interesting look at Elon Musk and at over 600 pages the book needed to be longer.

Captain Carter: Woman Out Of Time by Jamie McKelvie (writer), Marika Cresta (artist), Erick Arciniega (color artist), and Matt Milla (color artist) – an alternate reality where Peggy is Captain Britain and takes on the new bad guys.

Enola Holmes and the Mark of the Mongoose: Enola Holmes Book 9 by Nancy Springer – another adorable Enola Holmes book with Rudyard Kipling! Springer made a comment that this might be the last Enola book, let’s hope not!

Star Trek: Picard: Rogue Elements by John Jackson Miller – the story of Cristobal Rios and how he got the La Sirena. Lots of fun easter eggs!

Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution by R. F Kuang – this book took me months to finish because I did not want it to end and so I kept putting it off. A version of Oxford in the early 1800s where words are magic and a few students have decided to rebel against the colonial system.
