June 2021 is the start of my ‘What I read in…’ or basically what Melissa read this month in a blog post format. I believe that you should only read things you are interested in. Life is way too short to read a book that you don’t like.
For my June 2021 Reads, I only finished 4 books. I started a few others that I did not like and so I did not finish them. Read what interests you!
“Castle Shade: A Novel of Suspense Featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes Book 17” by Laurie R. King. The next installment of the Laurie R. King books about Sherlock Holmes and his fabulous partner and wife Mary Russell. This time they are dealing with Romania, royalty, an interesting mystery, and vampires!
“The Bench” by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and illustrated by Christian Robinson – a children’s book about a father and son by the Duchess. The watercolor illustrations are the best part of the book. Not so much a story, but a short poem. Wait for the movie. Its promoted as her first children’s book, but the Library of Congress published a tweet about a book she wrote and submitted for copyright as an 8th grader in 1996 called “A Face without Freckles… Is a Night Without Stars” where she wrote a poem and illustrated it.
“The Landscape of History: How Historians Map the Past” by John Lewis Gaddis – I read this one for my History Book Club and it was short and interesting. I have read Gaddis before on national security, but this book revolves around the idea of what is history and why and how we should study it.
“Death in Daylesford: Phryne Fisher Mysteries Book 21” by Kerry Greenwood – the newest Miss Phryne Fisher mystery book. Another fun Fisher mystery with Phryne and Dot on holiday, while back at home adopted daughters Jane and Ruth, and new addition Tinker along with Hugh Collins solve their own mystery. I wonder and hope that the kids will get their own spinoff mystery series.
