Day #1 of the IDV Summer In-Person. As usual (sad that its so usual), the day started way too early for breakfast and my great dislike for mornings meant that I got there for the last 10 minutes of breakfast. After breakfast it was off to class. My summer PhD class is Advance International Relations which I am taking to prepare me for the comprehensive exam. The morning section of the class was reviewing the assignments/calendar and the afternoon section was discussing zombies! ‘Theories of International Politics and Zombies’ by Daniel Drezner to be more precise. I am a fan of Drezner’s Zombie book and even gave autographed copies out for Christmas last year. He also had a wonderful panel on Game of Thrones at this years ISA Conference where he was dressed up as Jon Snow. After I tweeted a photo of the Zombie book and my IR class, Drezner favored the tweet! How totally cool is that! Lunch was terrible, which was disappointing as they usually have a good lunch at school, but I went to a coffee shop in an old bank and got a chocolate croissant. Dinner was at Salute’ Italian Seafood Restaurant with my fellow PhD students. The best parts of the In-Persons are socializing with the other students.
