Happy Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo or as I was told today, the date that the twin and I should have been born. Instead we arrived a month early and messed up my mom’s maternity leave.

So today I had to get up at the crack of dawn (aka 630am), which is hard to do when you work until 11:15 at night (and dont go to bed until 2ish), to attend the annual EQS (Enhancing Quality Staff) day long conference at the U. There was an interesting lineup of speakers this year. These are the ones that I attended:

-“B is for Battle Cry” or “They actually pay me to do this?” by David Geister
-“Money Management in a Scary Economy” by Andrew Whitman
-“The Visual Bridge: Getting Kids Interested in Reading Through Comics and Graphic Novels” by Brent Schoonover
-“The Best Graphic Novels You Haven’t Read” by Roy Cook
-“Mughal Architecture, Visualizing Splendor” by Donald Clay Johnson

The Visual Bridge speaker gave away copies of his graphic novel ‘Horrorwood.’ I managed to get issues 1, 2 and 3, but his other graphic novel was gone before I walked in the door.

I also won one of the door prizes. A $25.00 gift certificate to Linder’s- a gardening store. Now I have a Mothers Day gift (she was getting plants or flowers anyways!) and re-gifting is good for the environment, right? I never win anything, so it was very exciting to win!
