The Library of Congress! That was the first stop on a brief tour around DC. The roommates went wedding dress shopping (yes, Madeline is turning into bridezilla!) so Keith (one of my fellow PhD students) and I went to the LOC! Yes, I slightly bulled him into going to the Library of Congress, but it was a beautiful building, we got to see the Gutenberg Bible, and I got a Library card from the Library of Congress!!! How totally cool is that! Ok, its called a “Reader Identification Card”, but still – library card! I also took photos when the signs clearly said “no photos,” but as I used a iPhone and not technically not a camera, I figured I was good to go and no LOC security came running. Next we were going to take a Segway tour of the monuments around DC, but they were all sold out for the day. I even called another place and they were also sold out. Segways are everywhere and are apparently the thing to do in DC. So then we stopped at the White House Gifts where you can have your photo taken in a fake Oval Office if you purchase merchandise. So of course I had to do that. Then we walked and walked and walked to the White House, to the Washington Monument, to the WWII Memorial, to the Reflecting Pool, to the Lincoln Memorial, and to the Vietnam Memorial. Then we grabbed a taxi. The monuments were busy, but not too crowded, the temp was in the low 60’s with a slight breeze, and not a cloud in the sky! So a beautiful day to be in Washington DC. For dinner Madeline, J, and Keith met up with Pepe and some of his friends for dinner at Logan Tavern- which has great food.
