2023 Robert A. Stein ’61 Lecture: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett

The UMN Law School had their 2023 Robert A. Stein ’61 Lecture: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett lecture tonight and it was kind of boring. I basically oppose everything she stands for and don’t believe that she is qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice (she was a law clerk for one year, a law professor for 15 years, and a judge for 3 years and that’s it), but I wanted to see what she had to say. You should always take the time to listen to people who have different beliefs and opinions than yours. She comes across as very smart, but really dull. Not a lot of personality. I started to nod off a few times when she was rambling about some statutes. The only interesting thing was her brother went to the UMN and lived in the Dinkytown area. There were some loud protesters about 15 minutes into the talk yelling and waving signs. They came off as rude and people clapped when the cops took them out. Overall security was horrible and worse than the airport – U campus security, MPLS police, state troopers, and Secret Service everywhere. Everyone got padded down and had to go through the metal detectors. Black SUVs with tinted windows were everywhere. Apparently, there were protestors outside but I did not see them. The Justice Elena Kagan talk a few years ago was much more fun.

Here is the UMN blurb on the event and you can watch the video here on C-Span.
