Time is running out to see Jan’s art

The work of Jan Marx will be featured through Art in the Mayor’s Office Exhibition Program, sponsored by the City of Minneapolis and Minneapolis Arts Commission. The public can view the exhibit from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays from July 1, 2008, through August 29, 2008, in the Mayor’s conference room and reception area, City Hall, Rooms #331 & #333, 350 South 5th Street.  A small reception will be held on Friday, August 22nd between 5pm and 7pm.

Jan is a downtown resident who has been painting on site along the Mississippi River for the past eight years. She has been an active member of the arts community and past president of the Northside Arts Collective.

Her Mississippi River Series evokes the popular French Impressionist movement with a highly textured paint surface often created with the use of a palette knife as opposed to a more traditional paintbrush. The next series of works, entitled Main Street, will document towns on both shores of the Mississippi River from the Twin Cities to the Gulf of Mexico that have a street named “Main Street”.
