The almost solo day

I almost soloed today. Almost.

Instructor Cheryl and I discussed it before we left the hanger, so I knew that it was coming. Since last week I knew it was coming either today or at my next lesson. So I had the camera already, the t-shirt was already to be cut, had a black Sharpie pen ready to go, etc. FYI…there is a lot of preparation for the after solo photo, as it hangs in the hanger for all to see, plus the photo is going to be my Christmas card for this coming holiday season (so if I know you and like you expect a “Melissa solo’s” Christmas card in a few months). Then after a few landings, Cheryl asked if I want to solo and I said one more landing and from there my landings went to downhill fast. Not sure if it was nerves or what, but they were clearly not my best landings. I ended up with nine, yes NINE landings today. Plus a bunch of go-arounds. My last go-around to the tower consisted of me saying in a disgusted voice ‘Anoka Tower. 839KT once again going around’. Grrr.

But on the other hand, it was a beautiful day to fly. And any day you get to fly is a good day. Plus there were lots of helicopters out and about at the airport. Helicopters rock! Yes I miss flying helicopters.
