Busy day visiting USM campus including the IDV Department, the Library, the Bookstore, seeing the Friendship Oak which is over 500 years old, and then visiting the beach across the street from campus. I have been visiting this campus for 10 years and have seen the campus and surrounding cities change and evolve as the years have gone on. Its been wonderful to see life come back after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina -she hit in 2005, but Mississippi is still recovering. I had not been to the beach in years, so I touched the cold water and then quickly wiped it off as I have no idea what’s in the water (oil spills, chemicals to clean up the oil spills, stuff from various Hurricanes, etc.). Then I drove around looking at the cool old houses, stopping at a local bookstore – Pass Christian Books and Cat Island Coffeehouse and bought some autographed books and an ice tea. Then I stopped for tacos, fried ice cream, chips and guacamole, but they forgot the guacamole. It was very sad. But over all, a very good day.
