Nye’s Polonaise Room (piano bar and polka lounge) in Nordeast Minneapolis is closing down, so as I had never been there before I figured it was time to go. So reservations were made months ago and tonight I went for dinner with Mom, Kelley, and Maggie. While I expected it to be rundown and slightly seedy, I did not expect it to be so dark inside, to have really bad service (drink orders were badly mixed up and service was slow), there was no polka music going, and it had a slight bathroom smell when you walked it. The food was good (I had the macadamia nut crusted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed asparagus and the spinach artichoke dip appetizer), but it was way overpriced. So while it was fun to finally eat there, it was a disappointment. RIP Nye’s.
