November was a very busy month and I ended up finishing five books! Dune and the two Yarros books were three of my favorite books of the year, so a great month for reading. The books and the links to buy them are listed below.
Remember life is way too short to read a book that you don’t like, so read what interests you. Happy reading!
Sherlock Holmes: The Dowager Baroness: A Sherlock Holmes Resurgent Mystery Book 11 by J. B. Varney – Another Holmes and Watson book about a mysterious woman. Has a very good twist!
Iron Flame: Empyrean: Book 2 by Rebecca Yarros – Year Two for Violet at Basgiath War College. Has some twists you see coming and some you do not. I bought it before I was even finished with Fourth Wing and had it read in just a few days.
Fourth Wing: Empyrean: Book 1 by Rebecca Yarros – One of the best books I read in 2023! I had seen it mentioned here and there as a dragon book and that it was popular, but did not read the reviews. Ok. Dragon book. Cool. Then I decided to read it, because who does not love a good dragon book? Wow. It’s such a fun book with a fun storyline and characters (Violet loves books and knowledge and is clueless), so a good fantasy book and then it throws romance at you. Yep, totally did not see this new genre of romance-fantasy coming (which apparently is called romantasy). Think Harry Potter/Dragon Riders of Pern/Game of Thrones/Twilight/Bridgeton all rolled into one. Best quote – “A dragon without its rider is a tragedy. A rider without their dragon is dead.” Oh yes, and the dragons are really, really snarky and totally awesome.
Dune by Frank Herbert – An amazing book! This is the first time reading it and I am sorry that I waited so long. Read the book before you see the new movie.
Disunited Nations: The Scramble for Power in an Ungoverned World by Peter Zeihan – Zeihan, who can be very sarcastic, takes on the world, but it did not happen. So the book was published in March of 2020 which means that it was written in 2019 and we all know what happened in March 2020. Interesting ideas, but history happened.
