Looking Back to Look Ahead: How 2020 May Guide the Future of Elections

“Looking Back to Look Ahead: How 2020 May Guide the Future of Elections” was today’s Zoom discuss hosted by the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs’ Certificate in Election Administration program and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). It was really interesting to hear these dedicated individuals from all sides all talk about the 2020 election cycle and what is going to be important going ahead. There was also a very funny line towards the end about ‘how we need to make elections sexy again.’

Panelists include:
Keesha Gaskins-Nathan, Program Director, Democratic Practice–United States, Rockefeller Brothers Fund
Mark Goins, Coordinator of Elections, Division of Elections, Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office
Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto, D-NM
Tammy Patrick, Senior Advisor, Elections, Democracy Fund
Senator Greg Walker, R-IN
Moderated by Wendy Underhill, Director of Elections and Redistricting at NCSL.
And Larry Jacobs of the UMN spoke at the beginning and end.

Here is the official blurb:

“December 16, 2020 – 1:00 pm CST- 2:00 pm CST
Virtual Event

2020 was a year like no other. COVID-19 caused a health care crisis, a rocky economy—and seismic changes in how elections are run in the United States.

Now’s the time for a look back on the 2020 elections processes, from the presidential primaries through the state primaries and on to the general election. What changed, what issues came to the forefront because of those changes, and what can state legislators and election officials glean from 2020 to make elections in 2022 and beyond even better?

Please join us as we explore these questions with a panel of policymakers and election administrators. This event is co-hosted by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the Certificate in Election Administration (CEA) program at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.” (https://www.hhh.umn.edu/event/looking-back-look-ahead-how-2020-may-guide-future-elections)
