Long, terrible Friday

Saturday finds me still recovering from a long, terrible Friday which started out with foot x-rays for my upcoming foot surgery. Then I had to make various calls to the crematorium and the funeral home, as the numbers that were on Dad’s urn box and Dad’s ashes did not match up. The crematorium made what they are calling a “clerical error”! Yes, an error on the ashes, urn, and also on the official paperwork. Nice. Thank you crematorium for screwing up my father’s burial, adding to my stress, and causing me to worry about where was my Dad (was Dad in the box or not?). Yes, they said that was him in the urn, but the numbers were wrong.

Next if was off to Cloquet and the farm to pack up Dad’s things. Mom and I did make a stop at Gordy’s High-Hat, which was featured on a HGTV food show, and they really do have good food! But as soon as we pulled into the driveway at the house we were ambushed by relatives. I did not want anyone to be there when we packed up my Dad’s things and we were not expecting anyone to be there yet, later on two people were stopping in, but not when we arrived and yet we arrived to a lot of people, to a house which someone had opened, buildings and storage sheds had also been opened, and people were riffling through my Dad’s stuff. I found out that more things than we expected had been stolen and yet the house was not broken into, which means that it was someone we or my Dad knew. How sad that a close relative or family friend would go and steal as my Dad was fighting for his life or had just died.

I took a bunch of photos while I was there, as I don’t plan on visiting again. It’s a beautiful plot of land and it was a beautiful day, but one filled with too much chaos and sadness. On the way home Mom and I made a few stops at the local casinos to celebrate Dad’s life. He would have liked that, as he always had to stop at them on the way to and from the farm for “coffee”.
