January 2022 Reads

Lots of fun reading in January 2022, especially since I found this wonderful series by Ben Aaronovitch, to start this new year and in the end I read 10 books.

Remember life is way too short to read a book that you don’t like, so read what interests you. Happy reading!

What Abigail Did That Summer: A Rivers Of London Novella by Ben Aaronovitch – This book focuses on teen Abigail Kamara and a bunch of talking foxes! Yes, its as fun as you think its going to be. Here’s hoping that this is the start of a new spinoff series.

Whispers Under Ground: Rivers of London: Book 3 by Ben Aaronovitch – What lurks in the London subway? Grant, Nightingale, and Lesley tackle the London subway and search for a rogue magician. We also meet an FBI agent and teen Abigail.

Moon Over Soho: Rivers of London: Book 2 by Ben Aaronovitch – London Constable Grant and Inspector Nightingale hunt a jazz vampire!

Ironheart: Vol 1 Those with courage by Eve Ewing, writer; Luciano Vecchio and Kevin Libranda artists; Matt Milla color artist, and Geoffo layouts – A Riri Williams adventure and Miles Morales shows up

Midnight Riot: Rivers of London Book: Book 1 by Ben Aaronovitch – Wonderful book following London Constable Peter Grant as he learns that magic and a few River gods are real. Wish I had found this series sooner!

The Governess: A Professor Challenger Story by Stephen Gallagher – A gothic tale about Doyle’s other character with a unique cameo by Holmes.

The Trojan War: A New History by Barry Strauss – My history book club read this retelling of the Trojan War – lots of history, archaeology, and the classic tale of humans and gods behaving badly – just a story of male pride and money (Helen took her money/treasure with her when she left Sparta, which changes the narrative a bit don’t you think?).

The Witches’ Tree: An Agatha Raisin Mystery: Book 28 by M. C. Beaton – Agatha manages to find more trouble and murder.

The Sultan of Sarawak: An Ava Lee Novel: Book 14 by Ian Hamilton – the latest adventure of former forensic accountant Ava Lee finds Ava traveling to Malaysia and Hong Kong. More Uncle, even if its just a ghost/dream Uncle, was needed.

Ironheart: Volume 2: Ten Rings by Eve Ewing writer, Luciano Vecchio artist, Geoffo layouts, Matt Milla artist, and Clayton Cowles letterer – Riri Williams has a new adventure, goes to Wakanda, and meets Shuri.
