Janet Dawn St. Martin

Yesterday, October 27, 2011, was the funeral for my family friend Janet Dawn St. Martin. We always knew that Janet was not in the best of health, but that’s just the way she was. She still came to holidays and other events, went to the casino with my parents, and took the occasional trip with my parents (she was brave enough to drive to Alaska with my dad a few years ago). She also loved Star Trek and Star Wars. Then about 3 weeks ago she took a turn for the worse and was given 2-3 weeks to live. Imagine being told you have 2-3 weeks to live. It was incredibility sad. I got to see her one last time in the hospital. She was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.

The funeral took place at a beautiful church called St. Patrick and there was a good turnout of people. Typical Minnesotan food was served at lunch: ham sandwiches, hot dishes and jello desserts. Because I think there should be laughter at a funeral to go with all the sadness and tears, I would say the best part of the funeral was when 3-year old Julian launched his teddy bear across the holy water! His mother was mortified, his grandfather stood by laughing, and me (as his aunt) thought it was hysterically funny.
