Friday August 24, Day #1, of my PhD program In-Person found me up way too early for the PhD student meet and greet breakfast at school. Then I had a nice break filled with catching up and talking with the returning and new students before my first class: Comparative International Political Development. Lunch was nice, but there was no speaker. There was however the new signage for the IDV program brochures and a tiny part of my head is in one. We found Madeline and Jane just fine, but it took some doing to find me (you can see just a bit of my hair and my Mac laptop!). Then Madeline, Jane, and I were off to help Madeline look for a wedding dress (Madeline and Brian are getting married next summer). We visited three very different bridal establishments and laughed the whole time (ahh the stories we could tell, such as the one bridal establishment in a trailer that had a half naked man mowing the yard. Scary!). Dinner was at Darwell’s, which was on Dinners, Drive-In’s and Dives (an HGTV show) and as I had never been there before, it was nice to try someplace new. They have great food and even had a band playing. We had been given a menu and a ticket at breakfast for the dinner, so we had lots of time to decide what we wanted to eat. It was nice to sit outside and listen to the band, but I have not been feeling well, so I left a little early. Overall a nice day, but people are starting to become a bit concerned about Tropical Storm Isaac.
