February 2022 Reads

Lots of fun reading or reading for fun in February 2022, as I managed to finish 9 books. I am working my way through the Ben Aaronovitch books and they are awesome. The books and the links to buy them are listed below.

Remember life is way too short to read a book that you don’t like, so read what interests you. Happy reading!

The Return of the Pharaoh: From the Reminiscences of John H. Watson, M.D. by Nicholas Meyer – Watson and wife go to Egypt for her health and there he meets up with Holmes. Howard Carter makes a cameo! I wanted more Mrs. Watson.

Death of a Green-Eyed Monster: A Hamish Macbeth Mystery Book 34 by M. C. Beaton with R. W. Green – the last Hamish Macbeth book by M.C. Beaton. I was not happy with the ending and I wonder if it would have been different had Beaton lived.

Rivers of London Vol. 3: Black Mould by writers Andrew Cartmel and Ben Aaronovitch, illustrator Lee Sullivan, colorist Luis Guerrero, and lettering by Rob Steen – graphic novel involving Peter, Guleed, and the evil of black mold. Takes place between between Foxglove Summer and The Hanging Tree. This is number 3 in the series and you don’t need to read them in order if you have read the other books and are aware of the main characters and various plots.

Mid-Century Sherlock Holmes by Gautam Rao – Holmes, Watson, and others reimagined in a Mad Men era. It was a Kickstarter project and hopefully it will be for sale to the public soon.

The Children’s Book of Jeeves and Wooster words and pictures by Gautam Rao – Cute little board book of Jeeves and Wooster. Fun for adults and kids too.

Lies Sleeping: Rivers of London Book 7 by Ben Aaronovitch – now a Detective Constable, Peter and company faceoff against the Faceless Man and Lesley and we finally get a bit more background on Mr Punch and his family.

The Hanging Tree: Rivers of London Book 6 Ben Aaronovitch – Peter’s adventure starts out helping river goddess Lady Ty and her daughter. Peter now has a new partner Sahra Guleed, a relationship with river goddess Beverley Brook, meets a former cool version of Lady Ty, and a few others magical people with their own agendas. Lets hope Lady Helena gets her own spinoff book.

Foxglove Summer: Rivers of London Book 5 by Ben Aaronovitch – Peter Grant goes searching for some missing girls outside of London. Includes a retired wizard from Nightingale’s past, some weird bees, the return of Beverley Brook, fairies, and some mean unicorns.

Broken Homes: Rivers of London Book 4 by Ben Aaronovitch – Peter, Lesley, Nightingale and now Abigail search for the big bad – the Faceless Man and investigate a residential tower. We get to see or meet the Summer Court of the River Gods, a goblin market, tree nymphs, a Night Witch, and a few more river gods and goddesses.
