Doctor Who 50th Anniversary!

Today is the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who!!!

The Internet is Who crazy! The OED had “Tardis” as its word of the day. Which it defined as “In similative use, esp. as the type of something with a larger capacity than its outward appearance suggests, or with more to it than appears at first glance” and its etymology is “TARDIS (acronym < Time And Relative Dimension (or Dimensions) In Space), the name in the science-fiction BBC television series Doctor Who (first broadcast in 1963) of a time machine outwardly resembling a police telephone box, yet inwardly much larger” (www.oed.com 2013).

The 50th Anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor” was fantastic (David Tennant looking dashingly wonderful) and the show answered a lot of questions (Queen Elizabeth I, anyone?), but left us with a much bigger question: is Matt Smith doctor #11 or #12? “The Day of the Doctor” was shown simultaneously in 94 countries around the world. Such is the power of the Doctor.

Google even had it as its doodle- which included music and a game! You can pay at http://www.google.com/doodles/doctor-whos-50th-anniversary
