Dr. Dave Davis

I received word today that one of my friends and PhD classmates Dave Davis (Hugh Long Davis III) had died on April 14, 2020 at the young age of 63 due to prostate cancer. Dave was a wonderful person, a talker, so supportive to many people, including me, in our PhD program, and always fun to be around. He loved talking about his family and especially his sons, his wife Robin, football, and his faith. He was always a bright light for any event and I will always have wonderful memories of our class IDV PhD classes, I believe he was one of the instigators of the wearing of searsucker, and events- especially the European trip (yes I took a photo on the Paris subway! I know, I know, I am such a tourist). Dave was kind enough to mention me along with other PhD students in his Dissertation and when he went to Italy with Robin on vacation after our class trip, he remembered that I asked him, if he had time, if he could bring me back an Italian copy of Harry Potter (for my collection) and he did. How very kind is that. A true Southern gentleman and having talked and emailed with a bunch of our PhD friends, I know that he will be greatly missed.

Update: Dave’s obit. https://natcheztracefuneralhome.com/tribute/details/410/Hugh-Davis-III/obituary.html#tribute-start
