The second zoom lecture today was a wonderful talk by retired NASA Astronaut Dr. Leroy Chiao, which was part of the Roger That! Conference. Dr. Chiao participated in three Space Shuttle missions (STS-65, STS-72, and STS-92) and one Soyuz TMA-5 mission, and was the Commander of Expedition 10 on the International Space Station.
Entitled: “Succeed Like an Astronaut: An Astronaut’s Path to the Stars” here the official blurb:
“Leroy Chiao talks about his dream of spaceflight, and how he overcame obstacles to reach his goal of becoming an astronaut. His personal story and lessons apply to all students of all ages. A commander of the international Space Station, Dr. Chiao shares his spaceflight adventures with personal stories and exciting visuals!” (https://www.gvsu.edu/rogerthat/leroy-chiao-73.htm).
The Roger That! Conference is a celebration of Space Exploration in honor of astronaut Roger B. Chaffee. It is co-organized by Grand Valley State University, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, and the Roger B. Chaffee Scholarship Fund. Roger That! seeks to honor Chaffee and highlight local research in a two-day celebration of space exploration. For more information: https://www.gvsu.edu/rogerthat/
