Today the Minnesota 99s had a surprise birthday party for MN 99s member and WASP Liz Strohfus (Elizabeth “Betty Wall” Strohfus), who will turn 95 in just a few days (we had to have her party a little bit early, as she is off to California to give a talk about her WWII flying). The party was truly a surprise for Liz, who is still very spunky, the bell of the party, and was just delightful. She even told us some of her fantastic (and a few horrifying ones too) aviation stories from WWII. Everyone, and Liz most of all, had a great time! She received some beautiful flowers, tons of cards, a doll created to look just like her in her WASP flying suit, and I gave her a bag of traveling goodies and a card that played ‘The Chicken Dance.’ The equally wonderful Nadine Sugden also received her plaque for her Award of Achievement from the 99s, which she was awarded this summer (Nadine and her husband George were also awarded into the 99s Forest of Friendship), for all her work promoting aviation and the 99s over the years.
