Vatican Splendors

On Friday I went with my mom and family friend Janet to see the Vatican Splendors exhibit at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Its a bit pricey ($20.00) to get in and $5.00 to rent the audio tour (which I would recommend). It took me a little bit over an hour to wind my way though. I was hoping for more art (paintings and sculpture), but it was not too be. The best part was Michelangelo’s letter, the old mosaics, the make believe scaffolding and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and all the various art from around the world (a Arabic bible, a thanka from the Dalai Lhama, a Quetzalcoatl statue and a great African statue of Christ) and there was a bronze cast of Pope John Paul II hand which you could touch (yes I did and then got out a moist towelette-do you know how many germs were on there!) and this huge emerald on a crown from Napoleon.

You are not allowed to take a camera into the exhibit, but I had my iPhone with and took these in the around the museum.
