Tonight was The Norwegian Explorers of Minnesota Annual Dinner and Business Meeting! It was another fun dinner and there were about 60 people attending, so a good turnout. Here is the official blurb on the event:
“Our annual English Buffet dinner will once again be held in person at the Minneapolis Golf Club. Glen Miranker, BSI will be our keynote speaker for this year’s event. Glen is responsible for the exhibition “Sherlock Holmes in 221 Objects,” which is coming to the University of Minnesota next year. The exhibition draws on Glen’s stunning collection of Sherlockian items, rich in bibliographic rarities, manuscripts, books, correspondence, and artwork, all with intriguing stories to tell beyond their significance as literary and cultural landmarks.
We’ll celebrate the season and hold a brief business meeting along with enjoying the traditional English dinner. The evening will feature Canonical Toasts, presentation of this year’s Sigerson Awards, poems, limericks, carols, etc. Attendees will receive a limited edition copy of the much-anticipated and coveted Norwegian Explorers Christmas Annual. (We will not be mailing them to all members as we did last year, when our meeting was held virtually)” (http://www.norwegianexplorers.org/2022_dinner.html).
This year for the Christmas Annual I created an anagram puzzle with an international theme from the Canon:
Aho, Melissa. 2022. “Where in the World is Sherlock Holmes? An International Anagram Puzzle” in The Norwegian Explorers 2022 Christmas Annual, No. 21: International Holmes, by Ray Riethmeier and Phillip Bergem, Editors. Minneapolis, MN: The Norwegian Explorers of Minnesota, pages 14-16 and 85-86.
My Sigerson Awards was: The “A Singular and Complex Problem”* ‘The Reigate Puzzle’ Award for her puzzle “Where in the World is Sherlock Holmes? An International Anagram Puzzle”.
I also won a book and a Norwegian Explorers pin. They also gave out the book “Sherlock Holmes in Oz and Others: The Sherlockian Writings of Ruth Berman.”
