The Invisible Labor in Archives and Special Collection Libraries

A wonderful talk today by the ACRL as part of their ACRL Together Wherever Virtual Event on “The Invisible Labor in Archives and Special Collection Libraries” presented by Abigail Connick, Brittany Adams, Robin Desmeules, and the Wangensteen Historical Library’s Emily Beck. #ACRLTogether2020.

Here is the blurb on the event: “Access is a goal inherent in the mission of archives and special collections libraries although even with such public-facing aspirations, the actual labor required to advance access and other strategic priorities is often invisible or hidden. It is often the case that most of users, donors, visitors, and library administrators may not be aware of or recognize the extent of labor required to perform basic, yet key functions within special collections libraries. This panel will feature librarians across several special collections libraries and will discuss experiences with various forms of invisible labor that shows up in special collections library work” (https://ala-events.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Vd-4jbc1Qh2PzcK2b0o-1A).
