September 2021 Reads

Lots of reading done in September 2021 and 11 books finished. They ranged from mysteries to children’s books to graphic novels. Books and links to buy them are listed below.

Remember life is way too short to read a book that you don’t like, so read what interests you.

Death of a Policeman: Hamish Macbeth Mysteries Book 29 by M. C. Beaton – author Beaton’s other series starting Scottish Highlands Sergeant Hamish Macbeth. While you will not like Agatha, you will adore Hamish along with his cat Sonsie, dog Lugs, and cast of odd ball characters in the Scottish Highlands town of Lochdubh. In this book the threat of closing local police stations hangs overhead as a police officer is found dead and Macbeth is the prime suspect.

Loki: The God Who Fell to Earth by Daniel Kibblesmith writer, Oscar Bazaldua and Andy MacDonald pencilers, Oscar Bazaluda, Andy MacDonald, with Victor Olazaba inkers, and David Curiel with Carlos Lopez color artists – Loki is a King and goes to talk to Tony Stark.

Hot to Trot: An Agatha Raisin Mysteries Book 31 by M. C. Beaton and R. W. Green – author Beaton started to write this last mystery and died, so writer R.W. Green takes over and readers find the curmudgeon Agatha trying to figure out why friend and former lover Charles Fraith is marrying a rich socialite. Weddings, death, a snotty butler, horses, and travel ensue. This is the best of the series so far.

Kai and the Monkey King: Brownstone’s Mythical Collection 3 by Joe Todd-Stanton – adorable Kai and her mother have an adventure in China. Chinese mythology.

Arthur and the Golden Rope: Brownstone’s Mythical Collection 1 by Joe Todd-Stanton – Arthur tries to save his village in Iceland. Norse mythology. First book in the children’s series about the Brownstone family of adventurers.

Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx: Brownstone’s Mythical Collection 2 by Joe Todd-Stanton – Marcy goes to Egypt to look for her father Arthur. Egyptian mythology. Adorable story and art.

The Deadly Dance: Agatha Raisin Mysteries Book 15 by M. C. Beaton – Agatha investigates a death threat for a new wealthy client and all sorts of plot twists happen.

There Goes the Bride: Agatha Raisin Mysteries Book 20 by M. C. Beaton – Agatha’s ex-husband James is marrying a younger woman and Agatha goes to the wedding. Soon the bride is murdered and the mystery takes off from there.

Enola Holmes and the Boy in Buttons by Nancy Springer – an Enola Holmes short story that takes place before the new book. Too short!

Hiss and Hers: Agatha Raisin Mysteries Book 23 by M. C. Beaton – My friend Dr. Bob lent me three Agatha Raisin books. It took me a while to get into them and I had to go back and read book #1 as background. I don’t like Agatha, as she is selfish and not overly likable, but the books are fun. In this book, local gardener George is murdered and mystery ensues.

Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche by Nancy Springer – a new and adorable Enola Holmes book. Enola, Holmes, and Watson help a woman find her missing and believed dead twin sister. Hopefully, this is the first of a new Enola series by Nancy Springer.
