This weekend was the Roger That! Conference and their theme this year was Women and Space. Their keynote speaker was Astronaut Colonel Eileen Collins. Collins’s talk was “Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars” and here is the official blurb:
“Collins discusses the leadership and personal qualities necessary for success. She shares how her career as an astronaut took shape, from her early years in the Air Force, to becoming the first woman to command a shuttle mission. She also includes projections on the future of NASA and how it will be able to focus on exciting new space ventures. Collins discusses key factors for successful leadership, focusing on dealing with people, dealing with mistakes, safety and creative management. Her inspirational story shows that success is the result of a team effort and resonates with audiences regardless of their profession” (https://www.gvsu.edu/rogerthat/colonel-eileen-collins-88.htm).
The Roger That! Conference is a celebration of Space Exploration in honor of astronaut Roger B. Chaffee. It is co-organized by Grand Valley State University, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, and the Roger B. Chaffee Scholarship Fund. Roger That! seeks to honor Chaffee and highlight local research in a two-day celebration of space exploration. For more information: https://www.gvsu.edu/rogerthat/
