I am in Washington DC for a conference created by my PhD program (the last time I was in DC was back in the 1980’s and there was an actor in the White House!). It was a bit challenging to travel due to the bad foot and the fact that I still cannot wear a shoe, but today brought great things (well kind of great things, hey, sometimes you take what you can get) due to my bad foot. First I got to keep the boot on during my time with the TSA scanners, I got to ride in one of those airport cars to my gate, and I got to board before 1st class! I also upgraded to Delta’s Economy Comfort seats which have more leg room and space and they are certainly worth it. The bad travel experience came when I got my luggage back and I found that TSA had kindly broken off my luggage lock and bent those little holes on the zipper for the lock, which will make it harder to lock in the future. Yes, it was a TSA approved lock. Otherwise a nice day, found the hotel, found the roommates, found the local Starbucks (the barista asked if I was from Wisconsin! Dude, listen to my Minnesota accent!), and had a nice dinner.
