Its been one of my career goals to teach graduate students online (smaller classes, better topics, and lets face it- more money) and slowly over the years (over a decade now) I have been working towards that goal. Sure teaching online for ten years, having a lot of publications, and three master’s degrees helps and eventually the PhD will allow that to happen, but in today’s tough academic market you need to have more. Plus over the last few years I have been thinking that perhaps I want to branch out into the management/supervisor side of academia and maybe become a dean. So to learn some instructional design and pedagogy I completed a Online Distance Learning Postbaccalaureate Certificate in 2012 from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. They have a great program in Online Curriculum and Instruction and this innovative program in Online Adventure Learning. Recently I learned that those Postbaccalaureate Certificate credits can work towards the Master of Education (M.Ed.) Professional Studies program in Learning Technologies. So I applied and learned today that I got in! I am so excited. It will take me a while to complete the program, as I will be taking one class a semester, but that’s fine. There is no rush.
