With great sadness we learned that Great Aunt Cecilia Gulczinski died today – Monday, September 14, 2020. She was 102 years old and was born on August 4, 1918! Cecilia’s husband Frank was my Grandfather Steve’s brother. I don’t remember Frank, but Cecilia has always been very nice to me and the twin and was always wonderful to see her and her son Stanley at the 4th of July parties and other events. We expected her to come to the annual 4th of July party with her son Stanley this year, as she always loved to come for all the desserts and other goodies, but Mom cancelled this year (July 4, 2020) due to the pandemic. So we figured she would attend the one next year – July 4, 2021. Her mother died at 114, so we had every reason to believe she would be around next year. Two years ago on her 100th birthday we got her a baby bundt cake and Mom put some candles on it. A different year, I had her and a bunch of the adults at the 4th party out there blowing bubbles. All the older kids had such a good time. Mom and I attended her official 100th birthday party at her local VFW and the local TV stations Channel 11 KARE and Channel 5 KSTP stopped in to filmed her. There were so many people at her party, over 100, and I only knew a few. So I needed to introduce myself as “Kay’s granddaughter – yes, the older twin” or “Carole’s daughter, yes the older twin.” A life well lived. She will be greatly missed, especially on the 4th of July.
