Day 2 of the IDV PhD In-Person started with waffles! I have wanted to stop at the Waffle House for 2 years! Yes, TWO years! Waffle Houses are everywhere in Mississippi. Like ever 500 feet or so you will find a Waffle House. Apparently they moved in after the Hurricane and never left. I was the only one to order waffles (I had a 1/2 chocolate chip and 1/2 strawberry waffle). They also had a jukebox that I plugged $.50 into and picked Jimmy Buffet’s ‘Margaritaville’ and CCR’s ‘Proud Mary.’ Unfortunately, I never heard either songs, but I did hear a different CCR song. No idea if that was a coincidence or I hit the wrong button. I stopped in USM’s lovely, but small library for a little reading before lunch. The lunch speaker was Portuguese Air Force Brigadier General Luis Ruivo from NATO speaking about “An Alliance for the 21st Century.” Then Madeline, Deb, and I went to Port St Louis and did a little shopping. Supper was at Ziggy’s, a hamburger place that I had never been to, and then it was off to the beach across from campus to have a bonfire. Due to the rain, the bonfire did not get very big, but it was fun visiting with everyone under the super moon.
