I have been accepted into Harvard Business School’s new HBX CORe program! Its a 10 week online intensive business class or as they write “Credential of Readiness (CORe) is a primer on the fundamentals of business. It is designed to introduce you to the language of business. It assumes no prior familiarity with business concepts, though it does presume a strong motivation to engage and learn. CORe is comprised of three courses – Business Analytics, Economics for Managers, and Financial Accounting – which must be taken together. CORe is designed for college undergraduates, recent college graduates, and graduate students in non-business fields who want to prepare themselves for a business career or for a graduate business school” (http://hbx.hbs.edu/hbx-core/core-faqs.html). The program just started in 2014 and they call the online component a “learning ecosystem” instead of the regular technology platform. Have taught online classes for over ten years (and taken online classes for more years than I care to count) across a multitude of different platforms, I am very intrigued to see what they are doing.
When I applied I listed that I wanted to join the February 2016 cohort since I was going to be taking my PhD comprehensive exams in November, but then I pushed them back to April 2016 and I cannot do these two things at once (plus I have like 5 other things happening later in the spring #notenoughtime). Too many wonderful opportunities and too little time! So I have asked to defer until the summer and if they don’t allow that I will just apply again.
Update 11/20/15: The Harvard HBX program has allowed me to defer until June!!!
