Flying to Cambridge

Today I got to fly to Cambridge! I had to be at the airport at 8am, which is way too early for a non-morning person such as myself.

The weather was finally nice to fly or so it seemed. As we were taxing the airplane out to the runway, Instructor Cheryl and I noticed that there were a lot of clouds around. The weather was a bit windy and we were ready for that, but not for the clouds.

So we decided to give it a try and see for ourselves how low the clouds were and if we could fly to Cambridge. We ended up flying up to 3000 where we were above the clouds. Once up at 3000, we found ourselves surrounded by big white puffy clouds. Well you cannot fly VFR (flying with just visuals) if you cannot see the ground. So we found a way down through the clouds and decided that Cambridge would have to wait for another day and went on to fly some maneuvers.

After a while we noticed that the clouds had risen a bit and decided that they were high enough that we could fly under them at 1900. So we punched in the GPS and flew to Cambridge. It was only about a 15 minute flight.

Cambridge Airport is an uncontrolled airport, so there is no tower to talk to. Basically you do your own thing. We landed, parked the airplane and went inside the office so that I could get a stamp in my Fly Minnesota Airports! passport. One stamp (or airport) down, a ton left to visit!

A great day of flying!
